Hype Post – Serpent & Dove by Shelby Mahurin

**Disclaimer, I have not read Serpent & Dove or any spoilers about it.  The following post is pure speculation on what I think I will like and dislike about it.  I received an ARC at Book Con today and can’t wait to read it!**

Title Serpent & Dove

Author Shelby Mahurin

Description from Amazon

Two years ago, Louise le Blanc fled her coven and took shelter in the city of Cesarine, forsaking all magic and living off whatever she could steal. There, witches like Lou are hunted. They are feared. And they are burned.

As a huntsman of the Church, Reid Diggory has lived his life by one principle: Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live. But when Lou pulls a wicked stunt, the two are forced into an impossible situation—marriage.

Lou, unable to ignore her growing feelings, yet powerless to change what she is, must make a choice. And love makes fools of us all.

Initial Thoughts

I was so desperate to get a copy of this book at Book Con 2019.  Besides The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern, this was the only book that I would have been truly sad about missing.

Cover Art

I love the cover of this one.  It’s super unusual and I love the way the snake forms the “&” in Serpent & Dove.  The snake is also embossed and has a super cool texture.  I loved this cover.

Notes on the Dust Jacket

WITCHES!  FRANCE!

I really shouldn’t have to elaborate further here.  I mean come on.  Those two words alone are enough to sell me on this book.  I love non-scary witches and I’m sure you know my strong feelings about France.  This description is so amazing.

Final Thoughts

I am so unbelievably happy to have gotten a copy of this book.  There was another book that I passed on in order to get it (and it was pitched as something for Downton Abbey lovers), so I made a major sacrifice to get Serpent & Dove.  I’m happy with my choice and I hope this book lives up to the hype.

Stay tuned for my review – coming later this week.
