Title A Deal with the Elf King

Author Elise Kova

Description from Amazon

The elves come for two things: war and wives. In both cases, they come for death.

Three-thousand years ago, humans were hunted by powerful races with wild magic until the treaty was formed. Now, for centuries, the elves have taken a young woman from Luella’s village to be their Human Queen.

To be chosen is seen as a mark of death by the townsfolk. A mark nineteen-year-old Luella is grateful to have escaped as a girl. Instead, she’s dedicated her life to studying herbology and becoming the town’s only healer.

That is, until the Elf King unexpectedly arrives… for her.

Everything Luella had thought she’d known about her life, and herself, was a lie. Taken to a land filled with wild magic, Luella is forced to be the new queen to a cold yet blisteringly handsome Elf King. Once there, she learns about a dying world that only she can save.

The magical land of Midscape pulls on one corner of her heart, her home and people tug on another… but what will truly break her is a passion she never wanted.

Initial Thoughts

So I was on book 5 of the Air Awakens series by Elise Kova (binge reading it because it’s so good), when I received an email from Elise Kova telling me she stumbled upon my Instagram account! **Insert fan girl screams!** I was so excited when she asked me to be a part of her upcoming release because it’s literally right up my alley!

Some Things I Liked

  • Arranged marriage, enemies to lovers, slow burn tropes. All the tropes in this book were literally perfect. I loved all of them and they were used so well.
  • The romance. It was perfect and I loved every page.
  • The side characters. Literally every side character was amazing and I want more stories about them. I’d love a Harrow sequel, a Rinni sequel, and a Willow sequel. I loved them all so much and I want more of them.
  • Narration. I loved that this was first person narration from Luella’s POV. She was a smart, sassy, and fun character to narrate and I loved that so much about reading this book. Her narration made the story so fun to read.

Series Value

I’m officially obsessed with this series. I already know that the next books will be set in the same world but will feature different characters. However, I’d read more about Luella and Eldas any day of the week! I loved all of these characters and can’t wait to find out more about them.

Final Thoughts

I adored this book. I’d give it more than five stars if GoodReads would allow it. It was incredible and is possibly my favorite Elise Kova book yet (and I’ve read 9).
