Unfinished, But Not Forgotten

Have you ever started a book that you just couldn’t get into? Well, I sure have. I have an embarrassingly long list of books that I have tried, but can’t seem to finish.

  • Ace of Shades by Amanda Foody – I know so many people who adore this book. But, sadly, I am not among them. I find all of the characters to be annoying and I only got about 90 pages in.
  • Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake – I wanted to like this one so much more than I actually do. I think the plot is too messy for my taste. There are a lot of convoluted story lines all crisscrossing around each other and when I started it, I wasn’t prepared for it. I might pick this one back up.
  • Queen of the Tearling by Erika Johansen – this is another one that people speak so highly of. It’s so boring. I’m sorry if this is one you like, but it’s so politically driven I can’t stand it. Where’s the romance? The magic? The anything?
  • King’s Cage by Victoria Aveyard – this series fell off, hard. I was so into Red Queen and Glass Sword but I couldn’t even get a quarter of the way through this installment. And, yes, that means I never finished War Storm either but I just couldn’t do it. This series had a ton of promise and totally fell off.

I’m sure there are more but those are my most recent unfinished books. I try to pretend that I have finished them by tucking the bookmarks so far down you can’t see them. But, alas, now you know my secret shame. I don’t finish everything I start.
