Initial Thoughts
I was really excited to be chosen for this tour. Ok, I say that about most tours but honestly, I don’t apply if the book doesn’t make me excited! Shielded was a really fun debut with the arranged marriage trope, enemies to lovers, and a Viking inspired world and I was really eager to go back to it!
Some Things I Liked
New main characters. I loved that this was told from different POVs from the first book. Ren felt like an underused character in book 1 and I was so glad he was a main character here.
Chiara’s grandmother. I am a sucker for the sassy grandma trope – is that a trope? If it’s not, I’d like to make it one. Having a sassy old lady pal around with me often, I am a big fan of the banter between them in this story.
Series Value
I love a spin off book. While I would have happily read more about Jenassara and Enzo from Shielded, I loved that this book told Ren’s story. I would happily revisit this world for more sequels and side stories.
Final Thoughts
I really enjoyed this book. The romance was a touch too slow for me at points but overall, it felt right for the characters. I enjoyed the expansion of the world KayLynn Flanders created and think there’s plenty of series and sequel potential here.
