**Disclaimer, I have not read Rise. The following post is pure speculation about what I think I will like and dislike about it. Please be advised, the following may contain spoilers about book one in this series, Rule.**
Title Rise
Author Ellen Goodlett
Description from Amazon
Initial Thoughts
I didn’t know how I felt after I finished reading Rule. I didn’t hate it, but I definitely didn’t love it either. It was a slow read for me and I found the sisters quite annoying at times, but, the ending. That fabulous murder at the end really got me hooked. Putting on my Sherlock Holmes cap was the only thing that kept me invested in this series.
Cover Art
Ok, something else kept me invested. That spectacular cover. It’s so rich with detail and I love the dark colors. A+ cover design on this one.
Notes on the Dust Jacket
This description doesn’t really give us much to go on. It’s more or less the same as the first book. If their father learns their secrets, something bad will happen. We already knew that. Give me new information!
We also get no details on any of the secondary characters. I guess that’s pretty common for a small blurb but this is the last book in the series, so I would have liked more details.
Final Thoughts
I can’t tell you how much it bothers me that a book with three main characters (three POV main characters) is not going to be a trilogy. The imbalance of that irks me in the worst way.
Side note, it is also very bothersome that Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake is going to be a series of four books (instead of three).
I want this entire book to be about the murder mystery from the end of Rule. The rest of the story is basically inconsequential to me. Give me a mystery and I will solve it.
