Today’s Theme: YA Titles that Remind Me of the Bachelor or the Bachelorette

It might be a while before we get a new season of either the Bachelor or the Bachelorette, but, fear not friends! I have recommendations to get you through the waiting period!

1. The Selection by Kiera Cass – originally tagged as “The Bachelor meets the Hunger Games”, this book is perfect for quelling your desire for more of the classic ABC phenomenon. There’s no magic, just a really interesting “future America” with a Prince who has to find his future queen via a televised competition.

Prepare to be swept into a world of breathless fairy-tale romance, swoonworthy characters, glittering gowns, and fierce intrigue perfect for readers who loved Divergent, Delirium, or The Wrath & the Dawn.

Again, set in an alternate version of America, Princess Selah travels across the sea to find a suitor at the suggestion of her wicked stepmother. Imagine if Cinderella and the Bachelorette had a baby, that would be this story. Oh, and vikings. There’s a character who is basically Thor.

Selah has waited her whole life for a happily ever after. As the only daughter of the leader of Potomac, she knows her duty is to find the perfect match.

3. The Seventh Sun by Lani Forbes – imagine if the Bachelor was a prince with the power to control the sun. Seven Princesses come from neighboring tribes to compete for the chance to be the next Empress.

4. Lady Smoke (sequel to Ash Princess) by Laura Sebastian – image a season of the Bachelor or Bachelorette where the main character says they don’t believe in marriage. Then, they spend the competition process making snarky comments about the terrible prospects with their best friend.

5. Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas – ok ok, this one isn’t about competing for a prince’s hand in marriage, but Celaeana competes for something way more interesting! Who doesn’t want a competition of cutthroats and assassins competing to become the King’s official assassin?

After serving out a year of hard labor in the salt mines of Endovier for her crimes, 18-year-old assassin Celaena Sardothien is dragged before the Crown Prince. Prince Dorian offers her her freedom on one condition: she must act as his champion in a competition to find a new royal assassin.
