Hype Post – Romanov by Nadine Brandes

**Disclaimer, I have not read Romanov or any spoilers about it.  I got my hands on an copy before publication date through some excellently timed Barnes and Noble strolling.  The following post is pure speculation on what I think I will like and dislike about it.**

Title Romanov

Author Nadine Brandes

Description from Amazon

The history books say I died.

They don’t know the half of it.

Anastasia “Nastya” Romanov was given a single mission: to smuggle an ancient spell into her suitcase on her way to exile in Siberia. It might be her family’s only salvation. But the leader of the Bolshevik army is after them, and he’s hunted Romanov before.

Nastya’s only chances of saving herself and her family are either to release the spell and deal with the consequences, or to enlist help from Zash, the handsome soldier who doesn’t act like the average Bolshevik. Nastya has only dabbled in magic, but it doesn’t frighten her half as much as her growing attraction to Zash. She likes him. She thinks he might even like her.

That is, until she’s on one side of a firing squad . . . and he’s on the other.

Initial Thoughts

Anastasia is literally my favorite Disney princess ever.  She’s amazing and her movie was amazing and as a 26-year-old adult, I could still watch that movie any day of the week and sing along to all the words and probably still cry when she has to say goodbye to her grandmother.

Anyway… her story has always fascinated me and I absolutely loved what Nadine Brandes did with the story of Guy Fawkes through her book Fawkes.  So needless to say, this book was preordered the second I found out it existed.

Cover Art

I love the cover of this book.  Black is basically my favorite (as I like to say, it matches my soul) and it adds so much drama.  The red and gold accents are perfect.  Everything about this cover is perfect.  I will literally never turn it on my bookshelf no matter how desperate I become for space.  This is a forever-front-facing book for me.

Notes on the Dust Jacket

The romance is front and center.  How refreshing.  Usually, dust jackets only hint at romance but this one comes right out and says girl likes boy.  I love it.  I can’t wait to read it!

Final Thoughts

Through careful scrolling on Instagram, I discovered (posted by Nadine Brandes herself) that some Barnes and Noble stores had put these beauties out ahead of their publication date.  While I hate that Romanov’s book birthday was spoiled, I love that my journey to Barnes and Noble this afternoon led me to a copy three days before it comes out!

I am so incredibly excited to read this book.  I am literally bouncing up and down in my desk chair as I write this post because my next move is going to be to take the dust jacket off (so I don’t crinkle it) and read every single page.
