I saw Endgame about a week ago and I thought it would be a fun idea to to a post about YA book recommendations based on your favorite original Avenger.  Let’s start with the Avenger who began the story, Iron Man.

Who is Iron Man?

Tony Stark opens the Marvel cinematic universe as a rich, entitled, genius who makes weapons for the highest bidder.  He’s not exactly a great person, but he has lots of resources and potential.

Throughout the movies, we see him transition into a much less selfish version of himself while still maintaining most of his original confidence and charm.

Recommendations

  • The Girl of Fire and Thorns by Rae Carson – In this story, Elisa starts out in a similar situation to Iron Man.  She is a princess, he is rich.  Both come from families where they feel overshadowed by the accomplishments of a relative.  For Elisa, it’s her sister and for Iron Man, it’s is father.  Like Iron Man, Elisa’s journey takes her far away and she ends up in a dangerous situation.  Through the hardship, she transforms herself and emerges a better, more caring person.
  • Tiger Queen by Annie Sullivan – This is another story of a somewhat selfish royal being displaced into a difficult situation which forces her to re-evaluate her position.  Much like Iron Man’s story, Kateri also discovers that she is being lied to by someone close to her and these lies have greatly shaped her opinions of the world around her.
  • The Traitor’s Game by Jennifer A. Nielsen – Lastly, this story also parallel’s Iron Man’s own through the main character, Kestra.  She is another character who was lied to about her world but becomes a better person when she learns the truth.

Other Avengers

  • Thor
  • Hulk
  • Captain America
  • Black Widow
  • Hawkeye
