**Disclaimer, I have not read The Lady Rogue or any spoilers about it. The following post is pure speculation on what I think I will like and dislike about it.**
Title The Lady Rogue
Author Jenn Bennett
Description from Amazon
Some legends never die…
Traveling with her treasure-hunting father has always been a dream for Theodora. She’s read every book in his library, has an impressive knowledge of the world’s most sought-after relics, and has all the ambition in the world. What she doesn’t have is her father’s permission. That honor goes to her father’s nineteen-year-old protégé—and once-upon-a-time love of Theodora’s life—Huck Gallagher, while Theodora is left to sit alone in her hotel in Istanbul.
Until Huck arrives from an expedition without her father and enlists Theodora’s help in rescuing him. Armed with her father’s travel journal, the reluctant duo learns that her father had been digging up information on a legendary and magical ring that once belonged to Vlad the Impaler—more widely known as Dracula—and that it just might be the key to finding him.
Journeying into Romania, Theodora and Huck embark on a captivating adventure through Gothic villages and dark castles in the misty Carpathian Mountains to recover the notorious ring. But they aren’t the only ones who are searching for it. A secretive and dangerous occult society with a powerful link to Vlad the Impaler himself is hunting for it, too. And they will go to any lengths—including murder—to possess it.
I literally tried so hard to get a copy of this ARC at Book Con 2019. I was devastated when the line capped out on Day 1 but, nevertheless, I persisted, and made an attempt on Day 2. Day 2 was super busy for me but, I finally made my way into the line (please note, this was a lollipop board drawing). So basically, I had a 1 in about 6 chance of getting this book. You pull a lollipop off the board and the color on the bottom of the stick denotes the ARC you get. First of all, two girls in front of me pulled duds (blank lollipops), so that was a knife in my heart. Secondly, my mom went first. She’s usually pretty lucky when it comes to winning things that are not for her. And, she pulled Slay by Brittney Morris. Slay definitely sounds interesting, but I don’t usually read sci-fi (I prefer to stick to fantasy), so all hopes rested with me. I pulled my lollipop and saw it was red and I was literally jumping up and down. Until… they told me that I actually pulled pink. I ended up with another book that I have literally no interest in. But, there was hope! Two sisters who pulled after me both got The Lady Rogue and one of them wanted Slay. I couldn’t have been more grateful. So, whoever you are, if you’re reading this, thank you for trading!
I love the cover of this book. I hope the ARC cover is the final cover. It probably is since that’s what Amazon is advertising it with. But, I think the designs and the color scheme is super cool. It’s different from anything else I have.
Notes on the Dust Jacket
The dust jacket reminds me of a cross between Lara Croft and Dracula and I love that! I don’t normally do spooky or scary books but I didn’t get that vibe at all from this. I’m getting all kinds of historical fiction vibes from this and despite the fact that I have not read it yet, I already think I want more books in this series.
This was an amazing find at Book Con 2019. It is truly my miracle book. I could not have gotten it without help and I’m so glad I got my hands on a copy. Unfortunately, I have to work late several nights this week. So, I probably won’t be able to read this one until next weekend, but I promise to give a full review as soon as I can!
Stay tuned for the full review and more hyping as the release date gets closer!
