Let’s talk about trilogies. I have a confession, before we really dive in. I have a serious issue with not finishing trilogies. The reasons vary but it’s usually because I don’t want the story to end. If I read the last book, there’s nothing else to read. But now that I’ve gotten that off my chest, let’s talk about trilogies. I have finished all of the below.
The Caraval Series by Stephanie Garber
- Caraval ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
- Legendary ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
- Finale ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I loved this series. It’s very rare that I loved all the books in a series equally, but this is a case of that very event.
To be fair, I think my favorite book was Legendary, which is extremely rare, as I can’t think of another series that I like the second book best.
I read Caraval in February and, as mentioned in my posts about Legendary, I was afraid to read the next book. Caraval was so good, I didn’t think the next book could stand up to it. Also, I was terrified that it would end on a cliffhanger. I can’t stand when books end on a cliffhanger and I can’t read the next installment immediately. So, despite how much I loved Caraval, I decided to wait to read Legendary until I had a copy of Finale in hand.
Legendary was nothing short of its name. It was legendary. No, epic. It not only met, it exceeded my expectations and my feelings about Caraval. Tella is very clearly the better story teller, and, as much as I enjoyed Scarlett in Caraval, Tella became my favorite of the Dragna sisters.
Literally immediately after writing my review for Legendary, I picked up my copy of Finale. Unforunately, I was not able to read it all in one sitting (for no reason other than I had some errands to run). Finale was the conclusion that I wanted. It had everything. Closure, romance, wit, royalty. It was perfection. It also had plenty of hints at potential future story lines set in this magical world.
Overall, this series was fantastic. It had some small plot holes (which I have decided to overlook) because the rest of the books more than made up for them in rich detail, magic, and the hope of more books to come.
This is the first series I have ever read that I would not only consider re-reading. I will definitely re-read.
